Baby explores the movement of a young elephant, observing its off-kilter and unpractised motions. Using a variety of charcoal materials—from soft and hard sticks to charcoal powder applied with a makeup brush—Olguner makes marks ranging from soft to hard, playing between instinct, accident, and gentle control. She observes fleeting moments of the elephant’s movements, capturing its vitality, vulnerability, and the tender unpredictability of early life.
’I wanted to capture the off-kilter, raw and unpractised motions of a baby elephant.’
