Permanent collection of St Patrick's College, Ballarat.
This painting looks at the changes that have occurred to humanity and the natural environment.
’Yesterday’ thousands of years ago, the natural environment was thriving and healthy. The Indigenous Australians lived in harmony with the land, and they honoured it.
’Today’ we’re battling with infectious diseases and deadly viruses. We humans are not as invincible as we think.
‘Tomorrow’ if we continue to pollute the land, sea, and air, we will all need respiratory devices just to be able to breathe.
In early 2022, I became the recipient of the St Patrick’s College, Flanagan Artist in Residence Prize. I became the resident artist, for four weeks, at St Patrick’s College in Ballarat. During my residency there, I developed drawings and a painting for the permanent collection of the college. I also worked closely and collaborated with the senior studio arts students of the college.
This painting was created during my artist residency at St Patrick’s College in Ballarat, in Victoria, Australia. It was developed with the collaboration of the senior VCE Studio Arts Students, some of whom modelled for the painting. Every week during my residency, the students would visit the studio where I worked and provide constructive feedback on the painting as it progressed. This feedback was very valuable, as it helped inform the development of the painting.
On the 2nd of May 2022, this painting was unveiled to the staff and students at St Patrick's College in Ballarat, VIC, Australia. This painting is now in the permanent art collection of St Patrick’s College in Ballarat.
